After a British car show last Sunday the O2 sensor light came on.
I figured it was time to replace anyway as it's on the older side if not original. I did note earlier that the service counter was at 98%.
It's been some time since I dealt with the at one time ubiquitous white box (70's Triumph's, etc) so I'm asking if anyone here knows how to reset it? I seem to recall a small "key" with prongs but I don't see anywhere on the box where this would be utilized.
Also this damn 02 sensor. I have a socket but it's too large as the sensor is seated in a recess of which the diameter is too small for the socket. I assume a thin wall 22mm socket is required?? I'd like to know before I go buy one (online) as even local auto parts store does not have a thin wall for rent or buy.
And btw I'd like to retain the originality of the car as opposed to just disconnecting and throwing it away if this an option that may be proposed.
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Service Counter larger OD O2 socket for O2 sensor recess
Grind down the outside of the socket a little until it fits in the recess, shouldn't make it any weaker than a ready-made socket for the same purpose. Good luck.

Funny, I was just thinking of doing just this. However, I did not want to grind down my "good" tool. So I purchased one from Harbor Freight for $7.99 as I was skeptical it would work.
Well, it DID! BUT I had to grind much more than a "little" for the socket to work. I'm guessing more like 2mm all around. A LOT of material and luckily due to the recess reinforcing the very thin walls AND the fact the O2 sensor was not rusted in place it loosened it and unscrewed the remainder by hand.
So success. The actual removal and refitting of the sensor and resetting of the service counter took 10 minutes total one the procedure and "special tool" was all in place! lol
It takes a special little key to reset. Contact www.coventryfoundation.org. They will either scan it with scale or take a pic!
I also owned a later TR6 and TR7 at one time (I now have a 1969 TR6 without such items that were ever installed, to begin with). So with this past experience I looked into the Roadster Factory and they have them.
That said, I also looked up the issue on the Triumph forums and I read just use circlip pliers. Viola'! Reset in a moment or two.
Started the Jaguar and no light and I could "smell the difference". Open-loop catalyst smell that oh so familiar. This tells me that prior since I did not have this odor the 02 sensor needed to be replaced. I should notice the drivability difference and fuel mileage difference this coming weekend when I take her out.
