RTV and transmission pan cork gasket
I guess I thought RTV can be used anywhere and was a miracle gasket cement - not so. My cork gasket is leaking like a sieve. In all your experience what's the best approach for the transmission cork gasket?
For example (and as I recall), the Model 12 is virtually the same as the Ford "FMX"....used in a couple million 60s-70s Ford products.

And, regardless of gasket material, make sure the transmission pan is in good shape. Specifically the gasket mating surface. Sometimes they're distorted around the holes and need a bit of hammer work to become flat again

True, there are better gasket materials than cork.
1. If you can't find one, better material might be available in sheet form. Cut out your own.
2. Cork can work, but, needs some help.
Apply the sealer only to the pan. Let it set. Install the bolts to finger tight. Snug to foinal torque in a criss cross pattern. Do Not over tighten. It merel deforms the cork assuring a leak.

Just found a plate on the side of my transmission that says it's a BW66 SN#608050826. I thought that the BW66's didn't make it into the Jaguars until 1980 and mine is a 1975. I know my engine is not a numbers matching so I might assume that the transmission was swapped out by the PO also. And if it's not the original transmission it might explain my speedometer and odometer reading high by 20% or so.
Yacht:
Seems as there was a swap by the PO!
As to the speedo. indeed, The match of driver gear in the box to the driven in the speedo head governs. And that ratio related to the ratio if the driver vs driven gear in the differential.
If it bothers you and you seek a fix, open another thread and I and others more qualified will seek a fix.
My electronic speedo suffers that way. I can fix it. But never got around to it, and at this stage, not likely.
Carl.
