so the bottom line is:

a double seal radiator cap, whether it is at the radiator or the expansion tank, is better.

In OZ at the moment, yes.

Not better, just cheaper and they be semi universal.

The single seal caps that have reappeared at work are double the price of double seal caps, DUH. I will return them all tomorrow.

Francis, thanks for clarifying.

I still do not care for metal-on-metal radiator caps, and I cannot see why there would not be a rubber seal at the top. Only Jaguar knows.

Pot stirring, US, never.

Single seal caps were fitted to almost all cars thru the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Coolant was unheard of, and radiator overflow bottles, NAH, let it spew on the ground.

BUT

Most were 4, 7, 10 lb caps, with Ford having a 13 in the 1962 Aussie cars, and they still overheated.

Aussie mate, we are different, and sooooooo special, HA.
