Default Series 2 bumpers on series 3

Hello fellow Jaguar enthusiasts.

My Daimler Double Six Series 3, referenced in earlier threads in this forum, is nearing completion after three years of work.

I am now considering whether replacing the original bumpers with Series 2 units or not.

Has anyone undertaken this modification? Any practical considerations would be useful. Indeed, any thoughts would be welcome.

I have also commissioned a Daimler mascot from a sculptor, to be installed in place of the radiator “D” badge. This one.

By way of context, the car has been fully restored. It was my father’s, and the intention always was to return it to its original condition of thirty years ago.

Mechanical work includes: new cylinder heads, water pump, thermostats, generator, radiator, shroud and electric fans, both radiators recorded, new condenser, new expansion bottle, hoses , clamps, 12 new injectors, completely new fuel lines, new fuel pump and regulator, overhauled ignition system and timing; overhauled power steering and gearbox; new suspension with new bushings and silent blocks front and back; new front calipers and discs; overhauled multiple other systems... the list is so long that I forgot many items.

The body is currently stripped to bare metal and will be refinished in its original black, with hand painted coachlines and the family arms on each rear door. One rust sealant coat, 3 coats of primer, 4 top coats and 2 coats of clear.

The interior has been fully retrimmed: Alcantara headlining, restored leather with piping matched to body colour, rear seat backrests bearing the family arms, and the original bespoke burr walnut cabinet with refrigerated decanter and glasses fully restored with a modern, efficient motor.

I would really welcome views on the bumper change and any related considerations if and how to achieve it. I'm still in two minds. I used Grok A.I. to generate these 2 images.

I would pay triple money to have the bumpers in the first pic and avoid the bottom pic at large cost. No comparison imho.

Like you, to some extent I am also of two minds but the “full size” bumpers are of an age, as are the cars, and they carry a charm in their own right. This is a Canadian ‘92 VDP which I believe is identical to your Daimler except for the fluted grill and boot plinth and possibly the headlight wipers:

Thank you! But it is precisely the rubber bands that I find less pleasing than chrome. My DD6 does have headlight wipers, the image that I used for my renderings was taken from the internet. May I ask you what you mean by boot plinth (English is not my first language)?

The stainless steel “trim strip” at the top/back edge of the boot/trunk above the license plate.

Blessed Sunday,

has anyone ever attempted to replace the Series III bumpers with Series II units (obviously on a Series III)?
