Series 3 Header Tank decal?
On the big brown header tank for a Series 3 XJ6 there is a raised bit in the moulding that looks like it should be filled with a decal. Does anyone have a photo of a decal ever being fitted here? It could be that one was never fitted.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

What I'd like to find is the sticker for the battery hold-down.
Some of the XJS battery hold downs had a flat panel with some sort of advisory sticker.
On Series III cars there was an advisory sticker applied to the sheet metal right next to the battery, as I recall.
I can't remember the wording in either case.
Will do some searching for pics
Cheers

I may have been mis-remembering
This shows a battery hold down for a Series III with a panel and some sort of label
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...ngs-engine-bay
But there were 2-3 variations of hold-downs on the Series IIIs
I'm pretty sure my previous Series III had a sticker on the body right next to the battery
Cheers

I just had to look. That curiosity thing. And it keeps my mind away from the "crudy" feeling of my cold
The battery hold down in my SIII is different. The example Doug's in link is marked for a V12. Different from the 6, for whatever reason?
Mine has a strap across the front with tabs for the long bolts. The ones with the peculiar "nuts". And, a strap back to the cowl.
When I found my Optima too short, I sectioned the strap that attached to the cowl. High original at the ear, lower toward the front.
But, the Optima is gone. And Yahoo, it still fits ????

Andrew.
Give me a photo and dimensions and I can recreate it. I have already the two differents XJS sets and a believe these are the same.
If anybody wants one of these then drop me a line. I there is a different design let me know and I'll add it to the list of items being redrawn.
(Quality of image reduced and watermarked added to discourage unauthorised reproduction.)

A pal sent me this photo, attached
What I had on my Series III XJ6 was the smaller sticker...."connect positive cable first...."
The other, on the battery hold-down bracket, was used only on V12 cars ....I think.

Clearly, at least two hold down designs. One for the top post battery. And another for side post batteries.
My car is equipped with side post cables.
So, is an extrapolation possible ? Top post for V12 cars, side post for I6's?
Naah, Jaguar is famous for mid year swaps. Or use what is in the bins!!

With research, if motivated, I think we can come up with a (perhaps puzzling and arcane) pattern and/or rationale for side-post versus top-post. I've seen six-cylinder cars both ways.
As for the rectangular plate, I think that was intended as a heat shield and used on V12 cars only.
Fun trivia to research when the mood strikes.

my '84 has never had a sticker on the expansion tank or at the battery holdown, which is different from the picture above.
the "disconnect pos. cable first..." sticker is at the front of the battery but on the wheel housing itself.
