Dealer can give you the code only. Pull the radio out and get the serial from the back of the head unit, then call dealer for code. To pull the radio, pull the temp switches out, loosen the nuts inside, pull the plate and pull the radio unit.

You might get lucky and find someone has written the code on the radio, in the glovebox, or on the underside of the hood. I was about to pull my radio out, and then found it written on the radio by a previous owner. Also, check the paperwork that came with the car, in case someone scribbled it somewhere in there.

Or, drive to the dealer with the VIN and proof of ownership and ID and providing it is the original unit, there is half a chance that they can sell you the code.

Without taking the thing apart.

If I recall correctly, the VIN catalog at the dealer does not cover the earlier models like this. Pretty sure it has to be taken out from what I remember when I went through this.

There are one or two firms that can reset the code for you without reference to Jaguar. They probably do direct to the radio manufacturer. I am surprised a 1986 car has an original radio with a security code.
