Series ll USA Carb Question
74 (smog) series ll I have owned for 40 years. Made the mistake of O/H the Stromberg carbs and never got it right again. Off to a specialist now after throwing in the towel. He made a remark that puzzles me. He said they were mounted backwards. In other words there is a front and a back. Really? I thought they were identical.
The go-to expert for Stromberg Carbs is Joe Curto: British Superior | Vintage Carburetor Parts and Restoration | United States
I've used him with MUCH success.

Well, today the mechanic told me the carb diaphrams were mounted upside down, but that they had corrected that and cleaned out the passages. Unfortunately they found the exhaust valve in #3 is not closing and so the head has to come off. So far, the total bill will be about what I paid for the car 40 years ago. Oh well, it isn't much of a car if it doesn't run.
Do you know anyone you have confidence in that would give you a second opinion? I wouldn't OK the repair order with this guy quite yet. Will he show you the #3 valve that is stuck in the guide (or the the broken spring). If you think the "upside down" diagram is something that passed through your hands then I won't comment, we've all put something together a little differently than when it came apart.
