Should I send this tank back

Should I send this tank back
My XJ has a carb'd 350 in it. Gathering parts to switch it to FI. Probably going with the Holley ez kit. Anyway, so I purchased the 2 tank deal from Welsh. They arrived about an hour ago.
New XJ FI tanks from Welsh
New tank dented in the box
Not real happy with dents and paint scraped off down to the metal.
Obviously I wont be able to see it once they are installed.
I'm very seriously considering contacting Welsh for a replacement.
My questions... does that seem reasonable? I know, everyone has a different tolerance.
Took a bunch of unboxing videos. The packing was almost non existent. Should have at least been double boxed imho. I'm surprised UPS didn't destroy them both.

If time allows I'd certainly ask for a replacement. No reason to accept damaged goods without so much as a phone call to see what can be done. Hear what they have to say, at least.
If it's gonna be a big hassle, argument, long wait....., well, this wouldn't the hill I'd chose to die on, personally.
That's just me
Cheers

I would contact the supplier, to get maybe a bit of cash back or a discount on another purchase or whatever. And at least let them know.
but the tanks are fully functional, so I find it such a waste of energy and resources to just return them.
imagine it the other way: What if you dropped it yourself, and caused the same amount of damage? would you then buy new ones? I think not, becuase you would be the one paying. but it does show that you probably are not to concerned about the condition of the tanks.

damaged or incorrect parts are unacceptable.
Reject it.
BUT, Good luck with welsh. In the past they have refused to take back incorrect parts so I had to call my bank and put a charge-back claim. AND they should issue a CALL-TAG to have the deffective tank picked up at their expense, not yours.

Looking at the cardboard cartons in the background . Is that how they arrived?
It appears the problem is in the packaging for transport. ie The tanks would not have left the supplier in this condition but the packing system of an unreinforced cardboard is possibly not good enough
An approach to Welch with evidence of the damage from "in transit" may get a a reasonable response..
Overall, you are paying for the carriage service and if there is damage they, the carriage service are liable. They should also be approached
At least you can alert Welch to the need to use better packing and/or better carriers.
If all else fails "bung in"( fit) the tanks and get on with the job.
Cheers

Unfortunately I think the problem is ultimately with the carrier rather than Welsh. It would be a nice customer service move for Welsh to replace or discount, but return and replacement shipping will probably be with the customer. Carriers frequently are asked to respond to shipping damage claims and have processes in place to do so, but it's not always a easy path because they will likely require some documentation. The best is if the damage is noted on delivery and the driver is notified. Failing that, pictures prior to unpacking that show damage to the packaging can push the needle in your favor. . Welsh probably uses UPS or FedEx so that would be a starting point. There may also be limited shipping damage insurance in place.
My company ships and receives material daily and we have been on both sides of shipping damage claims. Usually successful, but we have someone in place to receive and evaluate the condition of incoming with the driver.

Shipping damage really should fall on the shoulders of the shipping company, of course. That's what's right and fair. Problem is, even if the shipper accepts responsibility, the process of making the consumer whole can be very drawn out and frustrating. Typically, they don't make it easy. Depending on the situation, the juice might not be worth the squeeze.
Some vendors step-up and make the consumer whole immediately...and deal with the shipping company themselves. Some vendors don't, because this certainly means losses that some vendors are unwilling or unable to absorb.
I buy lots of parts from Summit Racing, including a new windshield for my Jag. It arrived broken, a clear case of shipping damage. Summit sent a replacement glass. No argument, no fuss. What transpired between Summit and Fed Ex afterward, I have no idea. Summit is a huge company. They are capable of absorbing losses if the shipping company doesn't step-up. I'm sure this no-hassle-return policy is built-in to their business model and pricing structure.
Smaller companies might not be able to do this, even if they wanted to.
Cheers

fedex is the one that will not honor damages in transit. UPS always does. USPS will but it is slow due to the bureocracy involved.
The law says (on behalf of the shipper) that it is taken for granted that the item was shipped in good condition. But fedex does not honor the law either. They think they are above the law. I avoid shipping through fedex always.

1. Use a lot of air and see if tht will pop out the dent and then you can use it.
2 many vendors will rplace and abandon the damaged goods. Not worth paying for it to be returned. And if so, ask for pictures of the destroyed produt.
3/ Some send return prepaid labels. did that on a printer.
My vote. use them. Unworthy of a ny battles. And, i have done my share of ssuch battles
