Slipping fan belt

Slipping fan belt
Not a Jaguar question, but I thought someone here would have an opinion.
I have a fan belt that squeals when cold. My mechanic says it is adjusted correctly. My though is that previous slipping has polished the pulley and decreased the friction. Is this reasonable and if so any suggestion as to a fix?
I hope that I am not breaking any rules by asking this here.

Not any of my rules????
In my experience, if a belt has slipped for any length of time, it is damaged beyond repair ands a new one is the real solution.
The sheaves of pulleys are polished even by a proper belt properly adjusted. Usually, not an issue.
But, the belt friction surface glazes eventually. Slipping hastens that to the point that no matter how properly adjusted, it slips.
They usually squeal awful when done for. Been there, new belt, solved...
CAVEAT: No "belt dressing, please......
Carl..
