smells like gas...
my 1989 xj6 has been sitting for about 6 months. i recently got it up and running again and remembered an old problem i was having before every time i would fill up. whenever i enter the car it would have a strong odor of gas. i know the tank is located directly behind the back seats and the entrance to the tank is on top of the trunk. someone had suggested going to a car wash and spraying out the top of the tank to get any gas that may have spilled while filling, that didnt work. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks!

You appear to be NEW here, so welcome from "Downunder".
You have posted in the wrong area, DONT PANIC, as you have an XJ6 which is known as the XJ40, LONG story, just trust me/us, it will all become clearer over the time here, and you will have fun, most important.
One of our VERY FRIENDLY mods might want to move this to the XJ40 area so responses are maximised, coz a fuel smelling Jag is just "un -Jaguar" guys.
I have no real idea, as ours does NOT smell, BUT, fuel sender unit gasket may be weeping, fuel hoses (out the bottom of the tank from memory), fuel filler hose/o,ring weeping, vent hoses/valves weeping. I say weeping, coz just the fumes of gas can stink a car up real quick, and no actual dampness is always found????.
Common "old age" is now creeping into all these non-metallic items, so any hose/seal/gasket is a suspect.
