Solid read
I agree, this is a great article. Surprised to learn that they made 3/4 million of them. Here in America you don't see many; I wonder if they are more common in the UK or Australia.

Here in Merca in general and California in particular, owners spent $$$$ on new suspension bushings only to have them fail in 3 years (instead of 30+ years like the originals lasted), as they weren't aware of the Vast difference in "OEM" rubber parts.
Being seriously disheartened they parked their beloved Jag in the garage with a sheet over it to "protect it," as they couldn't yet bear to let it go. That might last a couple years until they "need the space" and put it outside under the car port.
A few more years and all the tires are flat, leaves are piled around it, and maybe they dragged it out to the back yard, still unable to part with it, hoping one day to "fix it up." A couple more years after that (what are we up to now? 10 years at least?) and Reality has set in, so they list it for sale and wonder who no one wants to pay more than scrap prices, certainly not what they're got in it, as by now the mice and earwigs have moved in, the leather is hard and cracked and the engine won't start because the mice ate the insulation.
Pre-Covid I used to see several XJs but now Nix is the Only One!
And, had I not learned from these forums where to buy the Correct OEM suspension bushings, she would also be parked in the garage, as I'm not willing to part with her.

Same thing in Australia.
A friend who is a retired mechanic bought two S3XJ6 cars for A$500 each. Just pre covid.
One had a bad head gasket. The other had minor front-end damage.
Both cars were in reasonable condition externally and internally. He repaired the damaged one and sold it for around A$7000. He still has the other one.
I think the Series 3 cars are now in the bottom of the J curve which is as cheap as they will go. Series 2 cars are definitely increasing in value and Series 1 cars are now getting big prices due to scarcity.
