Default Handheld Jaguar OBD2 Scanner?

OK here's the deal. I have two scanners already, an Actron 9580 and a BlueDriver bluetooth unit. They both read generic data but do not read ABS, Chassis etc type codes.

I don't have a laptop and don't want to buy one to get all the data from my Jag. I also am not willing to buy or use Android for anything. I really just need to read codes and live data, I don't need to program anything.

I would like to get a handheld OBD2 unit that can read advanced codes such as C Chassis, ABS (optional), and U network codes.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to these few. Any thoughts? I don't mind dropping a couple hundred bucks because I like to DIY when possible so even if I have one problem it can pretty much pay for itself.

First is the iCarSoft LR i930-II which they say is the newer model https://amzn.to/2oqbgKT - this is the one I'm leaning towards getting.

and the Foxwell NT510 https://amzn.to/2nZXvl8 I would say is my second choice.

and there is the older version of the iCarSoft for a little less $$ https://amzn.to/2nZR6WO

Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences?

This thread is full of information and feedback? Have you read it?

Also do a search on each of the scanners you call out. There are plenty of threads providing the exact information you're looking for.

Yeah I added a couple of searches above for you. The older icarsoft get's mixed reviews, but apparently lets you reset some codes and without that, there's no point in a DIYer to have a reader, handheld or otherwise. The newer one doesn't seem to appear on here, but it apparently has the same functionality. I once owned a laptop based icarsoft and thought it was a disaster but that's older tech.

The second link is the Foxwell search.

Personally no experience with handhelds. I have the OEM IDS/SDD and also autoengineuity. You might also try the S-Type forum as there are a lot of DIY'ers on ether as well.
Best of luck.

I have the iCarsoft i930 II. Works fine for my issues so far. Have not had an ABS code yet. Have the coupons to pick up a Cen-Tech 60794. With coupons it is 80.00 at Harbor Freight. It supposedly will read and reset ABS codes.
May not pick up today, but will try on the wife's 335i. It is throwing ABS light.

I have an iCarsoft BMW version that is similar to the older style Jaguar version. One challenge I ran into was when I had trouble updating the firmware and contacted customer service, I was informed that because the memory in the unit was limited, if I updated the firmware I would lose functionality with older BMW models. That was not acceptable to me since I often work on older BMWs. All that to say, if you go with one of the iCarsoft units, I would lean toward the newer type.

I don't have any experience with the Foxwell tools, but I see them on Amazon and if they work as well as their specifications suggest, they look like powerful tools for the money.

Please keep us informed and let us know what you decide to try and how it works.

Cheers,

Don

A guy had a used iCarSoft LRII for sale half price so I bought it. It'll be here next week, I'll let you know if it works and/or how well it works. I think it's also called the i-930 II.

Purchased a Centech 60794 yesterday. As a code reader I like my car specific readers better. The iCarsoft i910 it does not check as much as the i930 ii. May be the difference between a Jaguar and BMW.
The Centech allowed checking the ABS code my wife's car is throwing. Was erratic, now constant. Would not reset. Looking online it is the ABS pump. Can be refurbished for 250.00 by Module Masters in Moscow. Idaho.
Seems this is a four thousand dollar job at dealer. The pump is 2200.00, other parts 800.00, then labor and recoding. BMW service can get in your pocket just as deep as Jaguar.

The LR II works fine on my 06 XJR. It connects to many modules in the car. I did not have an ABS DTC which I was kind of hoping for because my brakes are touchy again.

There were two versions of the software loaded on the unit (I bought it used). The newer version didn't work, the older version did.

If the BMW ABS system is made by the German company Ate (the original Alfred Teves company), it could be that the ABS module just needs to have its solder joints reflowed, particularly the two large ones for the pins at the pump power connector. There are lots of posts about this in the X100 and X308 forums, and Gus has posted some very helpful DIYs at jagrepair.com. This is probably what the folks in Moscow, Idaho are doing, but you can do it yourself for a few cents worth of solder.

Here's a link to one DIY:

also have this scanner if it needs to go fast. you can read all the codes and the live data of the sensors injectors dpf etc. quite handy if you want to take a short look.

it is intermittent. The issue listed on Bimmer is some carbon brushes for the motor. I will search this before shipping off. Thanks!!
