After two hours in the rain, first 40 minutes under the bonnet then the rest waiting for the RACQ anything could have been possible. If the offer came along I may well have considered it.

Still got issues, after a chat with Grant last week we stripped and cleaned the carby's, but she still wants to stall sometimes when stopping.
Turn the key and it fires up again like nothing is wrong, runs perfect under load. No missfire etc.
Next step, replace the dizzy cap as the one on it has a little bit of plastic broken away where on of the leads plugs in.

Ditto that all is now well. Dr. Phil to the rescue !!! Neat to have a guy like that. Feed and adult beverages for him.
Not fair for two things to go awry at the same time!!
Side Bar. I've had this idea for some time, but have not tried it. An emergency substitute spark provider. I've a few really old vibrator coils in wooden boxes. The ones Henry used in T Fords. One of those plus a 6 volt dry cell. Wire up to provide a constant spark tot he center post of the distributor. It should run an engine!!!
I dimly recall a "hot Box' on the same principle, but more so0histicated. Dr Phil, what do you think?
Carl

New dizzy cap on and tested, not stalling when coming to a stop now. But still a little cough and splutter or miss fire when first accelerating but no signs of it under load.
I leaned out the carbies a bit to see if it was over fueling at idle but couldn't really pick any difference. But it is not doing it every time I stop, if I stop for a short period(say a red light) it takes off just fine. Only doing it when coming to a near stop or short stop of a few seconds.

Goodo.
The "usual" cause of that is the carb piston/s getting hissy with the damper oil.
I always ran ATF in mine, except the MK10 (HD8 X 3), which really had female moments until I swapped that oil for standard engine oil, never had anymore issues. Against all the oil suggestions, but that car simply would not comply in so many ways.

I went to see Dr Phill today for a Saturday arvo amber happy juice, he had bought Fireball a present.
One more thing eliminated.

Well done, that man.
Would the good Doctor please yell if he sees a spare later MY XKR or XJ220 going for a 60% discount . . . No, I won't object to a torn car cover, provided the car underneath is in "new" condition.
Cheers,
Ken

So the saga of the gremlin staling continued. Today it was decided to drain both tanks and see what was hiding within. Good news. Only a small amount of dirt found when we filtered the removed fuel and no signs of water. We then moved back to the carbs and inspected the float bowls for contamination and found a small built up of dirt settled in the bottom of each bowl. The bells were removed to gain access to the main jet and each carb given the reverse blow through . We found contamination in the rear carb main jet and the front carb choke enriching plunger jamming. A quick clean out and re assembly followed by resetting the mixtures and a road test. We believe we may have found the gremlin. Time for an amber refreshment and discuss our findings.

I think Dr Phill must have bought the nail gun with him today, looks like he nailed it. Just did a run to the local shop with no left foot braking and feathering the throttle.
Lets see how it goes the next few outings. All seems a lot better than it has been the last few weeks.
Wednesday the performance returned to how bad it was at it's worst. To the point on Wednesday where I was happy to leave my daily driver in the garage and ignore it and ride the bike. Even went out today and her indoors was surprised I took the jeep and not the Jag with it's little issue.
But is looking like we are on top of it. Hopefully happy motoring ahead of us.
