Default Speakers in the back window

Has anyone removed the rear water catch pan, or redesigned to allow the rear audio speakers to be placed in the rear window parcel? I feel the stock location for the rear speakers doesn't allow for the best sound when there is a passenger in the back. Actually even when there isn't a passenger .

Water pan is still intact. If I did anything over I would make the speaker mounts out of thinner acrylic they had at the stereo shop. Speakers are 6x9. Air sawed out the round indents first, speakers fit between the pan & hinge .

Thank you for the information! Pictures are great as well. I bet that sounds way better than factory huh?

Working on phase 2. There is an amp on the rear bulkhead. I paralleled the rear doors & parcel shelf. Replace rear door & front door speakers with upgrades.
Can't hear the front speakers. Moving the front door speakers to the kick panels and putting 6.5 in the front doors. That set will be in parallel

Cant hear the fronts because your legs block them?

Paralleling the rear reduced ohms to 2. Front is still 4 ohms. So it is easier for the amp to push the rear. Paralleling the front 4 will even out the load

This was the approach I took being less capable in my abilities as most members on this forum but the end result sure sounds better than the four 4" door speakers.

I placed an 8" powered subwoofer and a pair of sealed 5x7 box speakers on the parcel shelf held in place by velcro.

Good job! I don't want to be a naysayer, but... if per bad luck chance you get into a front-end collision, those speaker boxes may become lethal weapons just held in with Velcro.

Good point, I hadn't thought about that. I'll have to figure out a better anchoring system.

Removed all seats front & back. Amp power goes down the right side of the tunnel in an RFI shield. Amp RCA feeds go down the left side of the tunnel.

I too did not like the inadequate 4" front speakers buried in the doors. My solution was to swap out my base xj6 door cards for vdp cards. not only is it a better look but they have a separate speaker box that protrudes into the cabin. I was able to cram a pair of 6.5" jbls into the speaker box with only minor modification. the sound improvement was very noticeable. i +2 favored the front fade to bring the sound forward a little. you are way more advanced than me. i'm sure it will be nice when you finish. are you redoing the interior too?

Re did the front seats. Needs rear seats redone and a headliner. Pretty far down this list.
