I just picked up this starter today from getting rebuilt, and im trying to figure out why when I turn the key it still clicks once like its got a bad selenoid or isnt getting a connection. All other posts ive seen show the starter having 2 wires, but for some reason I have 3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And yes I did try attatching it to the prong at 3 o clock and vise versa, no luck.
I have no clue haha, im still wondering if I connected it wrong or if theres a bigger problem at play here, because the starter when out when I overcranked it for too long and burnt up whatever was inside
1) A heavy cable (almost like a battery cable) to the large post of the solenoid and 2) a white/red wire, about 12 gauge or so (rather fat), that goes from the starter relay to the solenoid. Which post of the solenoid this attaches too varies depnding on the solenoid....as replacements are often configure differently.
I see two white/red wires and a solid brown wire (white yellow connector). Plus (what appears to be) the heavy cable on the big post.
I can't make heads not tails out of it; seems like somebody has been changing things around.
Anyhow, if all you're getting is one click then check battery cable connections and check the main ground strap...which is very near the starter.

Is the battery 100% ?

Im not sure who was messing with it as my grandma has had the car since new but entirely possible, the third wire may not even be fore the starter truth be told, I do have the main cable (the one meant to be on the top post) on, so maybe its a low battery issue or something, I will definitely check all of that tomorrow, thank you for the help!
