Default Starting/Running issue and gas smell

Hell everyone,

I am new to Jaguars and am having a bit of an issue trying to figure out this starting issue.

It fires, revs up to 1000 and dies for the first few times it is started, almost as if there isn't enough fuel pressure. After doing this a couple times and revving it a bit she purrs like a big kitten. Anyone heard of something like this. Is it something to do with the fuel tanks or possibly an injector or fuel rail issue?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Is this an issue only when it's cold? If so, it sounds as though the Auxiliary Air Valve and/or the Cold Start Injector are suspect.

The 'could be' list is long and includes things you've mentioned. You gotta begin somewhere, so.....

If this is a problem only when the engine is cold I would check the coolant temp sensor. This is what signals the ECU to richen the fuel mixture....which a cold engine needs to stay running smoothly. The sensor can be checked with an ohm meter or replaced as a guess for about $20 or so. Only takes five minutes to change.

If the problem is not dependant on engine temperature you mighta wanna clean your throttle body and make sure the throttle blade is set to the proper .002" gap.

More out of curiosity, when has the car last seen new spark plugs, fuel filter, etc?

Cheers

AAV yes, quite possible.

Cold start injector? Not so much. If I understand correctly the engine starts easily but won't stay running. A running problem, not a starting problem. This leaves the cold start injector out of the picture as it is de-activated just as soon as the key is released from the 'start' position.

Cheers
