Default Steering Wheel Lubrication

Hello all!!

I would like to Lube up my steering wheel and keen to know what material is best and how to go about doing it?? On accession i hear a small squeak. After some investigation it turns out it is NOT in fact a cute mouse living the high life in his very own Jag.

Any documents or related posts with examples would be greatly helpful.

Thank you!

Chris

Me too. Mine is occasional and is more like a moan. Definitely where the steering wheel meets the column. What to use and how to apply would greatly be appreciated.

My first guess is the the copper grounding 'fingers' are sounding of. Not that unusual. You can see these if you remove the under-dash trim panel. They protrude into the column. A dab of grease or your favorite aerosol lube will silence them; even petroleum jelly would probably do the trick

Yup.

I have petroleum jelly on the lube side of my bench. Very useful clean stuff.

Lithium grease would be fine.

Or dielectric grease.

Or wheel bearing grease.

Just a tiny smear of just about anything slippery and greasy.

Dry skin stuff???

Naah, to me it is an old product. Marketed under the trade name Vasoline.

I have some other stuff prescribed by Doc. White. It costs a lot more, but would do for that purpose. It resembles the ladies of my Mom's era, known then as "cold Cream". If that is still around, it would do.

Or what was it in my earlier years, Brylcream for the hair "? "A little dab 'll do ya!" If still around that would work.

My word, so much in Jaguar care.
