Fraser how could I forget the famous ashtray ! and by 1969 the MG-B's exact model name was "MG-B MK-II".
MG was not a cheap car. Leather seats, full instrumentation, wire wheels, Excellent electricals, full size spare tire. I love MGs.
So do I. I bought one (MGB) new when I was a graduate student - 1974, last year of the chrome bumper, twin carb models. I drove it as my daily driver for 31 years through rain and snow, heat and sub-zero (F.) temperatures? It was very reliable, and fun. Slow, but fun. I am also slow, but fun. I think. The colour was Harvest Gold - horrible; I hated the colour the day I bought it and for all those subsequent 31 years, but it was the only new MGB available in Toronto in June '74. This is a photo of an identical car:
Gregory, i don't know about slow, maybe if compared to a Jaguar of the period.
I installed an Abarth exhaust system in mine and it made the car peppier, not by a lot, but enough. And it sounded great. I still conserve the water decal that came with the system.
