Default Steering wheel shaking

82 xj6 series 3

Whenever I hit a bump or pothole, the steering wheel shakes left or right. I just had all tires rotated and balanced, it did improve the ride a little bit but the problem remains still. The car pulls to the right when letting go of the wheel, and whenever it hits a hole or obstacle it shakes a little bit. Was just wondering if an alignment should do the trick, or does the shaking wheel seem to be a other problem with the front suspension. Anything I should check right away when its lifted?

The list is longish, and normal for vehicle age.

My suggestions from experience:

Ball joints, all 4.
Tie rod ends, all 2.
Rack mounting bushes. Standard Jag are rubber, and most replace with Poly, but that is YOUR choice.
Wheel bearings.
Shockers.
Lower inner wishbone bushes.
Upper inner wishbone bushes.
Subframe (cradle) V mounts, and to a lesser degree, the large round front mounts.
Engine mounts.
Sway bar link AND mount bushes, less likely, but on the list because I can.
Plus what I cant remember at the moment.

Basically a "Re-rubber" of the front end. My guess would be that this is waaaaay overdue, and "Grazing" as Doug says, is a total waste of time. Do it once, do it all, and PROPERLY, and revisit in another 30 years time.

Especially because a lot of those things need the whole front suspension/cross member removed from the car to accomplish. It seems a little silly to me to have to suspend the engine more than once in 30 years to do all this piece meal.

Yep, Then I usually follow that "grazing" with a reasonable session of "Slurping", JD thru a long straw, so that both hands are free for other things.
