HAHA! I actually considered designing an aluminum "dam" to create a safety space around the striker bar. The wife doesn't think it's funny. HAHA!

The trunk nets work well....
I had the same event on my boot.
Car cover was in between latch.
I had someone press down on the boot, while I turned the key.

Yeah, my Jeep has a cargo net. I've a box resembling a milk crate full of "emergency" supplies! and an old time tool box with "emergency" tools. Both secured by the net. It came with the Jeep along with rings on the floor to hook it in place!! Slick. Although, I suspect the contents are outdated!!! It also has a weird device like a window shade that is supposed to work in concert with the hatch in hiding the cargo. I gave up n trying to get it to work.

The Jaguar has similar gear. But, in that case unsecured. So far, so good, nothing has gone astray there.

Ok so have read through this thread and its been very useful indeed as I think my boot / trunk latch rod has come adrift from the handle bit.

I've taken my number plate off but there are no marks or cut outs etc in the panel to let me get some pliers in to pull the rod up and let me in !

Can anyone give me some measurements so that I can drill one hole and not turn my bootlid into swish cheese ?

Cheers in advance

One hand sized hole behind the rego plate will do it, no one will ever know until you have your cash in the bank and new owner has it tucked in his garage.
If you can't see it it doesn't matter so much on your own car.
