Default Stupid Question Alert

Ok, brace yourself for what could be a very stupid question....

Should my XJ6 4.2 have a cat on the bonnet or just the small square badge on the grill or both ?

Mine has the later and ive no reason to think it should have the former but just wondered why the difference ?

Cheers in advance for the informative abuse !

It is exactly as it came from the factory, the small badge and not the leaper. Pedestrian safety is why they were discontinued.

Ahh right, cheers Jim. So when were they last fitted before pedestrian safety stopped them from being fitted ?

If memory serves, you would be looking at the MK10 420G or earlier. There are plenty of threads on the subject though.

I believe 1968 was the last year, the introduction of the XJ-6 did away with the chromed leaper.

However, William Lyons insisted that the chromed leapers could be retrofitted if customers wanted them, so all Jaguars have two marked holes at the inside front center of the hood / bonnet, behind the growler emblem; You can see them from behind the bonnet and use them as a guide to drill two holes and install a leaper ornament.
