SU carbs with AE cold starter, mixture screws question
This is for a 1972 car with the separate cold starting device. You know how it says in the Series 1 service manual: ''Do not touch the mixture screws. These are set during production''?
Well, supposing somebody did touch the mixture screws by mistake, thinking they were the throttle stop/slow running screws. What would you do to get them put right?
I know this person who was trying to balance the carbs and I, er, I mean 'he' backed off the wrong screws after not looking at the diagram carefully enough.
To be fair, he then spent quite a while adjusting the mixture screws to get a fast, steady tickover and then dropped the speed with the correct throttle stop screws.
Screwing the mixture screws either way now causes the tickover to run worse. That must be good, right?
The car starts OK, ticks over OK and pulls well. It does sometimes stall when not fully warmed, especially when pulling up to junctions, unless you let the revs drop slowly. But it has always done this.
What will be most affected by the mixture screws and how far out of adjustment can be tolerated, if the car runs OK? This is just to put my, erm, HIS mind at rest.

Tell HIM, er YOU, to leave the damn thing alone.
He, YOU, have done a marvelous job of getting the carbs set proper.
Have a drink, maybe more.
The setting of the mixtures is TIME consuming at best, and most fail terribly.
If it runs fine, does basically what it did before you (sorry HIM) fiddled with it, let it be.
The stalling prior to proper warm up is possibly a tad lean at that temp, but then too rich at proper temp, so compromise we must.
I will assume HAHAHA, that the inside of the bell chambers have been cleaned in the last 12 months????.
