Tempted by an '85 XJ6

The T700 was already in the car when I bought it couple of years ago. A local Melbourne pro Jag specialist was running a Series III rebuild program in the early 2000's where cars were selected and totally stripped and rebuilt ground up to "as new". The trans upgrade was one of the options they made available and fortunately for me the PO chose to add it! I have only driven a 3sp BW66 example very briefly in the past so I can't make an experienced comparison, but I do know the T700 is a beautiful performer and very relaxed cruising at lower revs in 4th gear. It is a very popular upgrade, particularly if you need to swap out a worn trans.

I put a 700 in my '86 ...Johns conversion. The install was a pleasure with Johns detailed step by step instructions. But I do have a lift which made the process a lot easier. One issue I had though was that the kit doesn't account for the TV cable geometry properly (imho). You just attach it to the throttle and use the JC bracket which is treating it pretty much like a kick down cable on a th350, which it isn't. I could never get it to shift correctly until I made an adapter to go on the throttle lever that put the cable in the correct orientation with the throttle plate. Works like a dream now and the conversion makes a huge difference in the car. Much quicker starts and a very nice cruise in overdrive. This is what Jaguar should have done from day one with these cars, would have made them much more up to date and in keeping with the competition.
I wouldn't have an xj6 without it.
