We all do it. Keep bits and bobs that we think may come in handy, someday.
Whilst playing with Lady Mable, new to me Series One XJ6, I found that she had only one guage panel retaining thumb screw.
Guage panel thumb screw. Series One.
So I needed to make another. Off to the "Good ****" bin.
First to find an imperial 17/43 unf BW or something. I have lots of a metric thread that is VERY close but just not close enough.
I eventually found the right thread bolt, but it was only 32/64 of an 26mm long, so needed to be stretched.
Then the thumb wheel part. Aha! I knew they would come in handy, someday, when I squirreled them away more than 20 years ago. Some genuine Mitsubishi Series One Jaguar thumb screw heads.
OEM Mitsubishi Series One XJ6 thumb screw heads.
Still needs a stand off collar.
Size is spot on, only missing knurled edge.
With the addition of a roofing tech screw grommet as a stand off collar, she works a treat.
Now to find where this wire goes...
I suspect it is headlights.
Headlight rocker switch has three positions. Off. On and ? Only two wires connected. I think loose wire comes from here, but don't want to cook anything.
Tsk Tsk! The concours judges will hammer you for that non- original thumb screw
Yes. It's amazing, whatever crap you keep will more than likely come in handy eventually.
My wife constantly nags me about the junk I keep. Some women have absolutely no idea.

And on the flip side, I'm sure that we have all experienced it, you throw something out because you've had it for so many years and never needed it only to find that within days.....aarrg!
I think the headlight switch would be Off-Sidelights-Headlights
But I have zero experience with Series 1 wiring so let's wait for others to chime in
Cheers

The Series One has a rocker switch to the left of the headlight switch to turn side lights on. Pretty neat, actually. If you turn the headlight switch on, without turning sidelight switch on, it toggles both switches together.
