tilt and telescoping steering wheel
I have a 1996 xj6 and the tilt and telescoping wheel has ceased working.
The telescoping still makes a noise but it sounds as if the drive gear is stripped.
Does anyone have any experience taking one apart? Thanks, Poor boy.

Probably a drive *cable* that has stripped.
There's a separate drive unit for each function, tilt and reach. One of them....and I can never remember which one....is easy to remove and replace. The other, not so much. I *think* the tilt drive is the easy one.
For a long time the cables were available only as part of the motor but I think some suppliers have found someone to make (and sell) the cables separately.
Someone with more concrete information will chime in
Cheers

Thank you for the input Doug. I tried researching the system through the "net", even found an exploded view, but it was too small to see any real detail. I'm going to remove the column covers later today so will hopefully find the problem. In the mean time I appreciate what you gave me informationally, and hopefully it will be in my skill level to repair. Thanks much, Poor Boy
