Default Trip computer doesn't log fuel used.

On my '84 XJ6: Recently had my starter replaced which required the battery being disconnected. When the power came back, my trip computer stopped logging fuel used but it still logs real time and average mpg as well as everything else. It's the same, regardless of which tank I use.

Is it possible that it's something other than a failing trip computer? Seems like a silly feature to miss but the gas gauge is whimsical enough that I like to have another way to know where my fuel level is at.

Thanks in advance.

My money is on a duff trip computer. The interface unit is another possibility but, unlike the TCs, we seldom hear of a failure.

But....

More than a few wacky TCs have been brought back into good behavior but unplugging-and-reconnecting the connector. Just the fiddle factor at work

Cheers

Pulled the fuse, popped it back in and effectively rebooted the computer and it's working correctly again. Should have done that in the first place and not bothered you all with it. Thanks again.

Ultimately, the trip computer failed for good. Bought a replacement (with a later part number) from David at EverydayXJ.com for less than $30.00 including shipping. Managed to pry the old one loose without losing too much of my fingernails, popped the "new" one in and it's been working ever since. Easiest thing I've ever done on a Jag.

Rhett:

True! Mine just slides out. I have two. One in the car that works sorta.
Getting odd data in as my car is a lump!! But, a bit more than merely a clock.

The other one is a bummer. Bought as a left over from a lister on another forum that departed Jagdom. But, OK, as a lot of good literature and an unused fuel filter came with it.

My car is up on ramps. Oil and filter change done. Expected fight with offing the filter did not happen!!!!

Swapping out old lamps for fresh Wagner Halogens. Inboards first. Teeny screws a challenge. Lost one, ooops!!!

Will continue later...

Carl
