Default US Prices of XJ12, XJSC, XJS in the mid 80's

Hi JF,
I was curious if anyone knew what the price hierarchy of Jaguars were in the mid-eighties in the United States. To be specific, in 1986-*87, was the XJ12 the king of the hill on price or would an XJ-SC have had a higher sticker/manufacturers suggested retail price?

I know the Hess & Eisenhardt Jaguar convertibles were available and possibly the factory Jaguar convertibles may have been available in 1987. Feel free to throw them in the price mix as well.

Thank you for your thoughts and expertise.

Michael B. Concord North Carolina, USA.

Mid-80s the XJ12 was not marketed in the USA.

I think the XJ6 Vanden Plas was about $35000 circa 1985; the standard Xj6 about $32000? I'm sure the XJS was significantly more. About $39000 maybe?

I had an '88 XJS coupe and it was $45000 new, if I recall correctly. The soft-top XJSs were probably $10000 more, I think

Someone will come along with better info

Cheers
DD

Thank you Doug. With the old saying, "When the top goes down (or off in my 1987 XJ-SC case), the price goes up." I wondered if the XJ12 was more expensive than the XJ-SC in 1987. My XJ-SC had the complete Lister upgrade when new, so I suspect my car had a sticker price of around $65k in 1987. That is a heck of a lot of money in today's money.

The XJ12 was not sold in the USA from 1979* until 1993.
*: 6 of the Series III models were imported into the US in 1979, but no more Series III models. The next XJ12 was the XJ40 models in 1993.

The rest of the world could buy a Series III with a V12 engine, but not in the USA.
