My 1978 Series 2 BW type 12 gearbox is not registering on the dipstick after being unused for 8 years. The 2 spec. types I have read up on are types:
ATF type F to M2C 33F (Duckhams Q-Matic)
or M2C 35F. These are obviously from the 1970's, what would be the compatible spec for today's ATF fluid, and can I mix it with the existing oil?

Dexron 3 NO ISSUES. That is what ours gets when needed.

The "F" was just a slightly different viscosity to give "firmer" shifts, and the Dex3 is a tad softer, NO harm will come of anything whilst using it. The old BW12 is such a forgiving trans on any day.

Down here it has been simplified significantly, with the major brands having

Multi vehicle trans fluid, MINERAL.
Multi vehicle trans fluid. SYNTHETIC.

Does all but the very latest 6 and more speed autos in this market.

 

Grant, thx for your input& appreciated. Have looked online & this is a massive grey area "mix it, don't mix it, flush, don't flush fluck me who do you believe! Today I've been round several motor factors who said "this is ATP" it'll be fine...........Spanish have only just discovered Auto boxes😳. Last garage/shop this PM said I'd the fluid Red or Green Oh My God😁!
Will they replace the box if the fluid they assured will be fine is wrong?
