I have a 1987 XJ6. I want to get a diagnostic tool to use with it. I believe it has a small computer. Is there an OBD I/II tool that could be used on this car?
I have some other cars I want to diagnose as well.
Thanks for the help.

No on-board diagnostics at all on your model, sorry.
On the bright side most symptoms, faults, and fixes are well documented. What kind of problem are you having?
Cheers

On early fuel injected engines the mechanic was the scan tool. There are a few key sensors and a experienced mechanic would simply interpet the symptions and then check the relevant sensor for the proper value ranges. The XJ40 was delayed and Jaguar was still using a FI technolgy from the early 80's in the soon to be replaced series 3. The key items to check for engine running are good spark, coolant temp sensor, fuel pressure, injector pulse and the Air flow meter. If the AFM is bad the car should idle with it disconnected. For drivabilty you need to check the Air flow meter, the O2 sensor, coolant temp sensor and the throttle positions sensor.
