What is this part? - disassembling an '87 SIII door
My son was working on his XJ6 over the weekend and heard this part drop into the bottom of the door, while he was working to remove the door wiring harness. Haven't been able to identify it in any of our old parts catalogs or manuals.
The piece is alumin(i)um. And it has that off center hole which seems to imply that it works in a cam-like fashion.
If it is for the lumbar adjustment I don't know how it found its way into the door.
Apparently when he was moving the window mechanism around to free up the harness he heard it drop.
Could it be something that isolates/routes a rod or something inside the door cavity, which might need the slight alignment offered by the three flanges? I've not spotted anything in any of the parts sources we have that resembles it.
Regardless, this is an ancillary mystery. The main effort remains replacing the drivers door and main electrical harnesses. Likely more to come on that front. Thanks!
Hi, its a spacer fitted to the front door glass channel, it doesn’t show up in the series 3 parts manual but does on the series 2, obviously a different glass arrangement but will point you in the right direction.

A spacer? And asymmetric? Damn those brits had a sense of humor...
Unless there's a chance turning it might tweak the bottom of the window channel somehow, but I'm not seeing it right off...
Curious about the manual that had that illustration. Is that from a factory service manual? Hadn't spotted it in the Haynes one we have (but might have missed it).
I did a quick search of "factory service manuals" for the '87 XJ6 and most of the multi-volume ones that look like the complete sets are for the 2.9-3.6 models.
Would these be relevant to the 4.2L S3 that we have? Most of the results that cover the 4.2 seem to be single volume. Are these complementary?
