Wheel bearing end float adjustment S3 XJ6
Does anyone have the factory procedure for adjusting the front and rear wheel bearing end floats? I cannot locate that section of the procedure in the service manual. I had my tires replaced and the technician did the grab and in /out rocking wheel checks and the two front ones are quite loose and one rear side is much looser. I believe the front ones are adjusted by snugging up the castellated hub bearing nuts, but I seem to recall the rears using selectable shims when assembling the hubs.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Ian

THe fronts are straightforward:
The rears are MUCH bigger job. Reading the attached will explain what is involved. However, be 100% sure it is the bearings and not, for instance, a loose driveshaft flange, failing lower bottom wishbone outer fulcrum bearings, or a loose bottom wishbone attachment to the differential.
- jack up and axle stand the front end
- Remove the wheel
- Prise off the stub axle cover
- remove the split pin
- remove the special castellated thingy
