Default Where's the fuel pump on a '76? In the tank?

Per the title, just bought an XJ6C, and was told that the LH fuel pump was diagnosed as bad. The manual I have shows it in the spare tire well, but I checked, and it isn't there. Must be in the tank? Is there a good source for new replacements?

Default in the tank...

If you cant find an intake pump you can use a standard chassis mount low pressure fuel pump like hot rodders do. When I removed my pump it said AC on it. The pump is in the tank and is accessible from the rear tire well. Drain the tank, remove the rear wheel, remove the access panel on the rear of the wheel well which is held in place with 4 screws. This will expose the fitting which has the pump attached to it. You should use a brass drift (no sparks) to loosen the retaining ring.
