Default Window wipers - 1986 XJ6

Has anyone else had issues with window wipers, not working? my mechanic can’t seem to figure out what’s going on. It doesn’t seem to be the motor.

can anyone give me a little guidance on what I should have checked out? Thanks a bunch!

[Check and clean any wiring connections and the fuse box. Was the problem with my front lights and electric mirrors.

Agreed on fuses and connections.

If no joy then it’s probably the switch… which is a high failure rate part on these cars.

Sometimes the switch can be repaired. I’m sure you’ll find some info in the archives

Cheers

one way to check is by removing the underdash foam knee panel, then finding and grabbing the harness coming out from behind the wiper switch and wiggling it with engine running and switch in the upper position. Wear and tear.

Have you disconnected the wiper motor from the rack, then use the wiper switch to test the motor, if it works then it's the rack & pivots

I had an internal rack cable failure some years ago. Motor ran OK but no drive to the wipers.

The parking unit in the motor/drive assembly can fail too, and this permanently stops the motor. This item:
