Wipers
And to think we are posting all of this good permanent stuff, in our memories forever under a thread called "WIPERS".
Fifty something years ago, I got my first taste, also from a neighbor who was a 'shade tree' mechanic.
Fast Forward: Retired Training Specialist, still tinkering with cars.

Ears burning !!! Some one talking about me !!!
1. I sent in two pairs of ears to the VA audiology lab to fix. In the imterim, I've been using one of a really old pair. better than zip, but not by much. Fast, the latest set is here. Oh, so much better. or.... quiet is nice also.
2. Son bought a derelict fork lift. Blames me. Based on a WWII era Dodge Weapons carrier. Predecessor of the civilian Power Wagons. Shortened and he tower mounted astern. Converted so the operator faces what was astern. Supposedly it's venerable flat head 230 CI six cylinder runs. But, alas the big old truck four speed is stuck in "granny low". Front axle shaft removed some where in distant past, making it only two wheel drive fork lift. Ugly, in spades. concerned as to how his SO will take it. Much howling possible.
3. The first generators I messed with at the ripe old age of 16 had movable third brushes. Easily accessed to raise or lower the amp out put. On longer trips, cars so equipped turned on the head lamps in broad day light to avoid "cooking" the battery.
4. Plastic fuel pump in plastic tank in Jeep make me wish for a simple mechanical diaphram pump at the rear of the valley of a flat head Ford V8.

Some done, some not so much. Off to Rite Aid Pharmacy in the Jaguar. Putting along just dandy. Coco riding "shot gun". Quite pleased, just to be alongside.
Wipers parked almost perfectly at the chrome finisher, passenger side. No obstruction to any one.
But, as Doug pointed out, one, the furthest out board is a tad long. Will I mess with it? Not likely. A 15" blade would sweep less. Not good as these are barely adequate in a moderate rain.
Wrestle with Passat continues. One stinking connector holding up the works.
But, wowee, neighbor messing with his new toy, a very nice 15 year old Nissan Maxima. V6, but transverse mounted. Back six spark plug change requires an intake manifold removal. !!!!
O'wise a nice car, well kept. He likes it. Plan. do the maintenance, drive it til it needs fixing
