Question XJ-6 S3 Benefits of a gear reduction starter

Thinking of replacing the original starter motor with a lightweight Moss supplied rear reduction starter. Anyone done this and are there any real benefits other than weight reduction and reduced battery draw. ie. do they result in easier starting?

They're quite popular. Years ago I switched to GR starters on both my Series III XJ6 and XJS V12. Unlike the vast majority of others I had some gear meshing problems to contend with...which removed some of the gloss, so to speak.

Anyhow, after that I had no problems but at the end of the day it's not like they're magic or transformative. The real world benefit wasn't especially tangible or apparent to me.

IMO, the GR starters are sorta like a cure for which there is no disease.

I see no reason to avoid them.....but I wouldn't rush out and buy one just for the sake of having one.

Cheers
DD
