Hi, I've been trying to fit an after market cruise control kit to a series 3 car that never had cruise from new, i was trying to follow as much as possible the way the cruise was installed in these cars from the factory. I have used the original switches the xj had on the wiper stalk and on the shifter for the controls.
What I would like to know is how the cable from the actuator servo was connected to the throttle, what the linkage looks like and where it goes, so that i can copy it. If anyone has a picture or description of it that would be helpful. Thanks
Here is a picture of the cables going through the firewall, from there they connect to the accelerator linkage under the dash. The cable to the throttle has a little ball on the end and fits in a slot/socket at the end of the accelerator rod. The CC cable goes through the firewall and connects to a separate lever which pivots against the accelerator rod. If your car doesn't have CC, you might need to find the accelerator rod/linkage from a donor car in order to have all the right parts.
Cable closest to firewall is the throttle, farthest from firewall is CC.
okay, thanks for the information so far, So the cruise control pulls on that linkage (CAC3090) which has a see-saw action and presses down on the part of accelerator (gas) pedal rod which is close to horizontal at rest. That roller CAC3039 on the linkage is what makes contact with the actual accelerator (gas) pedal? It looks like it pivots on the pin where the rubber stop is situated for the pedal when its in the rest position in a non cruise car . Is that summery correct? If someone had a photo of that linkage in the foot well that would be helpful and I can possibly fabricate my own copy of it.
