Hi Grant,

thank you so much for all your hints and involvement, but I've given up up... Today the jag will be (or might already has been) picked up and delivered to a renowned jaguar restorer, it will probably cost me an arm and a leg, but I just don't know anymore. I had already tested the throttle switch (measuring at ECU), and every thing seems to perfectly match manuals I found on the internet, and your documents match those. Aside from my tests, the engine behaves the same with or with the switch connected. I brought it down to the bare minimum I think the engine needs to run: MAPs, Tempsensor, amplifier, injectors, fuelpump all other disconnected or restricted (cold start injectors), but nothing seems to work to have stable running, except for disconnecting the balance pipe.

When the Jag is fixed, I will report what the problem was... I sure hope those guys are able to pinpoint the problem fast, looking at my journey I think I spend over 100hrs just searching, tweaking and replacing stuff... at their hourly rates I will definitely cry if they need the same amount of time... .

Hi Grant,
the promised report... I don't have the full details yet, my father is picking up the jag and he probably has a full explanation because I still don't get it... Problem was that ignition timing was way off... after TDC actually, so the guy set it to 10degrees before TDC by "completely undoing it and shifting is 2 gears" and its running great again (according to my dad)... and now I'm completely confused.... Jag runs great (so probably correct timing?), Jag goes into hibernation, wakes up and ignition is 15degrees off... in my mind this is completely impossible... or am I misunderstanding how the timing is adjusted? I have searched the internet and am amazed at how little information I can find about how to adjust the timing. I have no clue what he's saying "completely undoing it and shifting is 2 gears", would you?

Anyways, very happy that it was a minor problem, now it can finally go to the painter... that was actually the reason for the hibernation, saving up for the painter... the technical restoration kinda drained my wallet

In case my father has some interesting details on the why and how from the guy I will report again ..

Good news, sort of, as you have rightly pointed out.

I assume the language is the same, and by moving "IT" 2 teeth, would be by raising the distributor, an rotating its mesh teeth by 2 to get it where should be.

BUT

How did it move in storage..

There is talk of the auxillary drive shaft, the one that drives the distributor, having issues with the 2 bolts that secure the sprocket to the shaft, but I have never seen that. AND, the noise would be bad as things slop around. Not something that could happen in storage in my opinion.

The worm gear om that same shaft is known to wear, and the driven gear of the distributor "jumps" a tooth or 2. NOT common, and kind of plausible as a storage happening.

To be ATDC as presented, and 2 teeth moved, is "about 30deg, so MAYBE, the plug leads were in the wrong cap hole, and by that I mean 1A started at the post next door, and that would through the thing out a total of 30deg. BUT, not something that could happen in storage.

Only other thought, and I have had ONE with it. The pin that secures the driven gear to the distributor shears, and the gear rotates without rotating the distributor. This "could" relate to storage, coz you basically hit the starter, and it starts and runs crap. That initial rotation, with a tight/seized distributor shaft, as the lube has run off during storage, could cause that, and it would put the thing in retard position.

I dont know now.

If it were mine, I would want to know exactly what he found that makes storage sense. OK. its running fine, and that's good, but what has happened intrigues me greatly.
