Default XJ40 vs. Series 3

My Jag mechanic offered me a 1990 XJ6 with 20,700 origional miles. Garage kept by an 87 year old woman. She no longer drives and he is selling it for her. He will sell it to me for 3500 dollars plus my silver 1982 Series 3 withy no heat or ac, minimal rust around the wind screens, and a dent on the fender and door (driver side). Fair deal? I prefer the look of the series 3 but a low mile Jag is tempting even if it's the XJ40.

The XJ40 well give you fewer problems with than the Series 3, but they still have their quirks. It's a very reliable power train. I'm with you, I like the Series 3 styling, but the XJ40 is an overall better vehicle.

I should add, I think his price is a little high. $3500 should easily buy that car outright if it's in very nice shape. The trade in as well seems a little steep.

Agreed that $3500 is a bit steep. Also agree with Ken's remarks.

My X300 is light years "better" than my Series III but, I gotta tell ya, I miss the old car at times. The Ser III has a "certain something" that I haven't felt in any car before or since.

Cheers
