Xj6 1983 warning lights

I have recently installed a new battery and now every time I open a door or switch on ignition the parking headlights and the rear numberplate light flash for about 1.5 mins ! Any ideas please .

Sounds suspiciously like the antics of an alarm system which, on a '83 XJ6, would have been added-on, not factory installed.

If you do some rooting around under the dash you'll probably find a alarm control module (looking out-of-place) which can be unplugged (or fuse pulled) in hopes of restting the brain.

Or take the time to remove the whole darn thing....which would be my choice.
