Xj6
Just bought a XJ6 thats been in storage since about 97.Ive restored many musclecars and had a few BMW's but never a jag.Previous owner said it ran great before going into storage.Im planning on putting some wd-40 into the cyl,and let it soak, then im going to drop the tanks and drain them, change plugs.Question is what else should i look to do?
Here you have example of XJ12 stored in DRY, HEATED warehouse for 10 years...

That's good, but WD40? WD40 is a solvent, basically. I'd use a light motor oil for soaking the cylinders
Question is what else should i look to do?
Change engine oil and filter.
Check ATF and coolant levels.
Of course, before *driving* the car you'll want to do much more....with emphasis on the brake system

- Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders. Let soak.
- Make sure engine turns over freely.
- Change oil and filter.
- Drain coolant, replace hoses if cracked, refill.
- Change belt(s).
- Drain tanks and clean if needed. (use a temporary tank if you are impatient).
- Inspect and replace rubber fuel lines as needed.
- New cap, rotor, and wires, as applicable (is this newer car distributorless?
- Remove spark plugs.
- Crank the engine with the plugs removed until oil pressure builds.
- Install new spark plugs. Hook everything up.
- Give it a go!
I would recommend that you read Awakening a Sleeping MGB. While the cars couldn't be more different, a lot of the stuff will be the same, and it should get you in the right mindset. Perhaps there is a similar document for Jaguars?

One more thing. You mention it has been in storage since '97, but not what year it is. Tell us more about your car, as there is a big difference between a SIII fuel-injected car and an S1 carbureted one.
thanks for reminding me!! in all my haste to make my car run well enough to do a short road/parking lot test I completely forgot to put a filter between the gas can and the carb!
its an 84 xj6,also when the gas tank button is pushed in,which tank is it running off of-pass or driver side?
