Default XJ6 cutting out

I have a Jaguar xj6 3.2, 1996, 77k milage and have now owned the car for around 3 months ish. It is a great car to drive only has an intermitent problem cutting out some time when stopping in traffic ect, as i say the problem only happens sometimes then can be ok for weeks. It seems like maybe the break servo is drawing to much when stopping then sometimes the car will cut out?. am told by other peolple that drive the car the break pedal feels spongy?, but i don't seem to notice this an breaks work well (don't know if this is related?). I would really apprieate any help/info from anyone, am no mechanic but am mechainicaly minded, maybe.

Does it sputter and die like a fuel or air problem, or does it just quit all at once like an electrical problem?

Thanx for the reply, i really don't think that it's an electrical problem although with it being a quiet smooth car an sometimes i don't notice its cut out till i see the dash light up an rev counter drop its not as if i have turned the key sometime as i come to a halt the rev's will fall the car will 'chug' then tick over as normal, sometimes it will die. Am not sure but think it maybe be to do with the break servo drawing to much air from in inletmanifold????????
