XJ6 S3 - Can't find fuel Filter
My S3 Daimler Sovereign (May 1981 - Australian delivery) has no fuel filter in the Tyre well - I have seen other S3 XJ6's with a bracket and large filter in the front R corner of the spare wheel well. Mine just has fuel pipes there.
There are 2 small in-line pre-filters for each tank before the fuel pump, but given she is a fuel injected 4.2, there MUST be a decent fuel filter somewhere - simply can't find it.
Any ideas on where it might be, or where I can add a fuel filter would be appreciated.

Firstly you are NEW, so welcome.
Please do an Intro in the New Members Area when you get the chance.
I have never seen a S3 with factory fitted pre pump filters, so they are an owner fit.
If the filter is not where you and I believe it should be, is it right at the pump, under that other trim panel at the rear of the boot area, basically rearward of the spare wheel??.
Look under the bonnet, where the supply pipe enters the engine bay just under the brake booster, maybe, but I doubt it.
Failing that, you no got one.

I suspect someone saved a bit of coin of the realm little pre cost a lot less than the big OEM Jaguar unit. Or, that guy decided two before the pump was a better design, by protecting the pump.
Now, I've read of others installing pre pump filters to assist cleaning out rusty tanks.
And protect the pump from detritus.
I kinda like the belt and suspenders idea. But, mine got a new OEM a decade or so ago and has done just fine with it alone. It came with a box of stuff from a guy that sold off his S3.

Hi Carl,
Yes, I'm told the 2 small filters are owner installed to pre-filter rust etc. from the tanks before the fuel pump and are sourced as a Volvo part originally.
BUT, there still should be a main fuel filter post fuel pump. I'll keep looking!

My guess is that the previous owner decided the two pre-pump filters were enough and eliminated the post-pump filter entirely.
I once worked on a very early Ser III 4.2 (mid-1979 build date as I recall) where the fuel filter was in the engine bay at the front of the engine. I reckon this was a throwback from the Ser II cars. Anyhow, I wouldn't really expect this on your 1981....but thought it couldn't hurt to just throw it out there.
Cheers

Well I have had a close look and can't find a decent filter anywhere under the engine bay or elsewhere.
The car was fully reconstructed by Caulfield Jaguar in Melbourne 12 years and looks to me like they removed the bracket for the large/standard filter at the front R side of the spare wheel well. See pic for visual on what is there instead.
I plan to get a bracket and fit it back to original with a new filter.
Sincere thanks to all for your great assistance!
