XJ6 - What is it worth?
I'm seeking help in determining how to price a vehicle for sale. I know how to look at KBB and other values but this thing is a creampuff. 1987 XJ6 with 43K original miles, 1 owner, paint and interior original and super clean, everything works, and very well maintained including recently replacing both gas tanks. A family member has loved this car from day one but it is time for it to go and I'm in charge of selling it. If you have any insight, comments, questions, etc, please let me know and thanks in advance.

looks wonderful, ask for $7,000. Forget book values, (that's my opinion).
unfortunately, it's a bad time for selling Jags (or any classic car). Hold on to it if you owe nothing on it. Keep protecting it.

I second those motions.
Thanks for the followup! I'm of the same mindset but not sure where to set the price. Just the cost of replacing the gas tanks was a good portion of $7K.
Nice looking series III,(not sure where AZ is). But Jags don't seem to be selling well here, especially older models. Market is flooded with ones that look good.
I would hold on to it for now.

Hi Clarke. AZ is sunny Arizona, USA. I've not had the opportunity to visit Australia but I would certainly like to. I see a few Jags around here but not many and most are so-so condition. The condition of this one is truly amazing and I'm sure to the right enthusiast it might be worth picking up. Thanks for the feedback!

If you take less than $5,000.00 for this car, its should to be sold to someone who cares about it.
I will always take less money & sell a car to a good home, rather than make a couple extra bucks & know that the car is going to its distruction.

Unfortunately the truth is it's worth a lot less than it deserves to be for the condition and the care that has clearly been lavished on it.
I hope you find an enthusiast who appreciates that and is prepared to pay a fair price.

This is the kind of owner you want to sell to.
Lovely car.
It's almost criminal how undervalued these cars are.
I bought my 84 VDP over a year ago with 69k miles on it for an embarrassingly low price that I can't repeat. 1 owner from new, masses of receipts, never driven in the rain, garaged always, absolutely 100% no rust, original everything, everything working, etc, etc. It is so good I now use it every day and have sold my '06 Super V8 Portfolio because I would rather jump in my Series III. I think these old things get under your skin almost as much as XJSes. In which case I'm really screwed because I've got both.
I would try for 7k but be prepared for a long wait. The key is getting the attention of the right buyer. I assume you have it in the classifieds on this board ?

That is a beautiful XJ. Great color. Especially if I didn't have to travel to or ship the car, $5000 would be a steal. Like others here, I tend to get attached to my cars and keep them a long time, and drive them. And I can appreciate a great looking car of any make!
I don't have a Jaguar yet (looking for a lower mileage 86/87 VDP) but just as an example, I pulled a 1995 Buick Riviera with 43k miles on the clock from a field last year, brought it back to life, and now it is a daily driver that I've put over 20k miles on that gets loads of compliments. I'm sure I'll drive it to nearly 200k miles, like most cars I have owned. And even at that final high mileage, they still looked great.
Great looking car, and good luck!
