Default XJC Headlining: Color & how to remove it

Hi, question regarding an XJC:
i am stripping the headlining and side trim. See pictures. 2 Questions:
1) is the black vinyl an original material & color for headlining and side panels? (Its not original on this specific car)
2) Any tips how to remove the headlining without breaking it too much? Remove all the small screws on the side?
thanks
Marcus

Hi Mlindblom,
I too will be replacing my sagged headlining on my Series 2 Daimler.
I am told the rear light (window) must come out but I'm kind of hoping it will come out of a back door, even if I have to remove the door to improve access.
Some time ago my wife and I replaced the headlining in our P38 Range Rover. A bit of work but it turned out perfectly but then again it could come out the rear hatch, so I'm hoping to do as good a job on the Daimler.
Not sure about the vinyl you mention, I would have thought the material would be 'West of England' cloth, ie felt like material similar to,what goes on a billiard table but others on the forum will confirm this (or otherwise).
Keep us posted on your progress
Good luck
Al

It's been years since I replaced mine but it didn't have leather type material. It was as refered above pool table felt like material. And I didn't have a problem taking it down and putting a new one up. I bought like material from a local auto upholstery place. I do remember gluing it up and using a paint roller to roll it on so that I didn't make finger prints. As I remember the material has a foam backing. I even did the side rolls as you can see in the pics. BTW if you have stripped your car as much as you did (and as I did) check under the rear parcel shelf and look at the water catch pan there. I'll be it needs work.

Hi
Finally got the time to take it away, wasnt that difficult after all; removing all screws and carefully peel it away on places where it has been glued.
Some vinyl still broke but I think it will not be visible (if I decide to keep it).
Now the car is completely stripped except rear window, engine&gearbox, front suspension and vinyl roof…. The vinyl roof is next. Any tips how to remove it without getting crazy?
@Bill: Yes, the water pan was removed a few weeks ago… It was about time =)
