Offical Jaguar data for UK spec HE:

Static timing just for the purpose of starting the engine: 4° before TDC

Then, disconnect vac pipe from capsule and set to 18° before TDC while engine running at 3000 RPM!

Grant has a really good paper about how to drive time the ignition, which is far safer and far easier than being underneath the thing with a strobe light while it is doing 3000 RPM while someone else fiddle with the dizzy. I take the liberty of attaching it without his OK. Basically you set the static and advance the timing until it runs and does not pink.

I am with Greg, obviously, but he forgot the most critical part:

BEER. man, ya gotta have a beer or 2 or 3. Calms the nerves, clears the head.

ALSO

These other write ups were also asked for many years ago, and would be in the archives somewhere, but just because, here ya go.
