1985 v12 starting problem
I'm 80% along restoring my 85 XJS. Engine has been removed, cleaned and resealed. Injectors cleaned ,tested with new hose kit. New plugs, wires O2 sensors.. Dizzy timing checked with timing light during cranking at 8-10 *.Some deletions: vac advance direct to port on intake, Supplemental air valve and controls, inlet fuel reg.
Engine cranks well and fires right up but cuts out after 2 seconds. If I hit the starter again it splutters and will not light up. This sequence can be started after waiting around 10 minutes. Feathering throttle does not help.. Fuel pressure is 40# at the rail and does not vary. I can hear the fuel in the return line, I did blow it back to the tank, no blockage. The CTS is connected to a 3700 ohm resistor ,also tried shorting to 0 ohms....no joy.
So I have spark and fuel but something is causing the fuel to not make it to the manifold ( I believe)
Car ran well before the teardown.
Anyone with helpful hints??
Glen

How is the white shielded wire that runs from the ignition amplifier to the ECU? I imagine if the engine is has been out it will have been moved around a bit? They're fragile in the best of circumstances after all this time.
Yes it is.
If your car has Cold Start Injectors, then it will run on the "squirted" fuel from them during cranking.
Its a ONE shot thing mostly.
Turn OFF the key, go for start again, and it "may" repeat that, most dont.
Pin 18 of the ECU to that Amp connector is what you are tracing.
