Default Need advice on wiper logic module

Hi everybody,
I have an issue with the wiper/washer unit on my 1996 4.0 XJS: While the normal wiper function (i.e. slow, fast, parking) works perfectly, the intermittant wiping and the washing ceased to work. When pressing the washing button, nothing happens (no sound from the pump either, neither windscreen nor head light power wash).
As the two functions are supposed to have been stopping to work in the same moment, my first suspect ist the wiper logic module (DAC10802).
Before starting to look for it and check whether it can be fixed: Does anybody have a better idea?
Thanks & Best regards
Martin

ok, I found the logic module and opened it. There seems to be much "heavy metal" and little logic inside
I was able to identify the relays:
RLY1 (top right in the photo - full view): wiper-slow
RLY2 (top left): wiper fast (together wirh RLY1)
RLY3 (center right): windscreen washer pump
RLY4 (bottom): head lamps washer pump.

If a actuate the pump relays manually (i.e. pressing down the switching blade), the pumps work. Also there are 12 volts coming from CS4-1 when pressing the washer button. So my conclusion is that the the logic part fails (or the two relay, but this seems less probable).

The 4 relays seem of the same type, but only at first look. Actually, 1-2 connect against ground, while 3 + 4 connect two cables.

Now I have another problem/question related to the search of a spare part: According to Jaguar Classic Parts, the part for my VIN should be DAC10802. But what I actually found behind the dash board was DAC10015 which works according to JCP only up to VIN 188104 (mine is 22...).
Does anyone know the difference between the modules? Just want to be sure that the failure of the pumps is not caused by somebody having changed the original module to the older version.
And if anyone has a module for sale - please tell me.
Thanks in advance
Martin

If you are a little electronically minded you can test some of these components.

I would test the Tantalum capacitor C7 first, these are notorious for failing short circuit. You can test this with any multimeter. Next I would test the large diode, I'm surprised there is only 1 diode, are there any on the back of the PCB? Most designers add spike suppression diodes to the coils of relays to dampen the voltage spike caused when the relay de-energises.

What is the number on the IC, I can not read it from the pic.

Hi Warren,
thank you so much for your help.
Are there any on the back of the PCB?
I'll have to drill out the bolts the PCB is attached with to the base.
As I have to pass the biannual car inspection on Monday, I've connected provisionally an external 12 V relay to the module which uses the 12 Volt coming from the wiper switch when you press the wash button to connect the two lines of the original pump relay. Should work for the inspection, see photo

The IC says:
3432ART
CF30199
I've attached an amplified image.

I'll check the capacitors and the diode(s) when I'm back from a rather large trip in August.
Thanks again for your help - I was quite desperate because I had no idea where to start.
Regards
Martin

Hi,
It has been a long trip, but in the end I’m back, and surprisingly the wiper module hadn’t fixed itself during my absence...

I‘ve drilled out the bolts, and actually there are more parts on the back of the PCB, for example another IC (see photo).
Following Warren‘s suggestion, I soldered out C7 and checked it with a multimeter. C7 reads, I believe, 11 µ. The multimeter displays 10,7 µ, so I suppose it‘s fine (?).
Then I soldered out one side of the big diode and checked it with the multimeter in diode mode. 0 V in one direction, 0,5 in the other (see photo) - is this good?

What else should I check? I‘m praying that its not the IC...
Thanks for your support &
Best regards
Martin

I have some news. When checking the PCB's backside with some watchmaker glasses, I found a mechanical damage of several circuit paths leading to the SMD resistors (?) that are soldered to the IC pins (see photo). I'm pretty sure that it wasn't me who did this during the dissasembling process, but you never know, it's more than a year ago... On the other hand, I can't think of an explanation for this damages...
I've bridged the interrupted circuit paths with cables (see photo), and as soon as I have some time, I'll test the module in the car.
Best regards
Martin

It didn't work. I ended up buying a (used) wiper module.

Did the replacement work?
If not I have one on Craigslist.

It did, and it still does.
But good to know that you have a huge collection of spare parts!

I think my Wiper Logic Module has been gone as well... the behaviour is the same as yours. (Wipers are okay, but no wash water comes from the pump) so I have to change it the way you did.

One question: Where in the car (1995er XJS 4.0 Convertible Celebration) is it to find?

Any advice will help me... thanks in advance!

As far as I remember, the module is in the footwell, passenger side. Should be pictured in the electrical manual too,

Wow - what a quick answer! And... I have found it! And now I hold it in my hands...

Did you buy a DAC10015 (the part number printed on a defect part) or the DAC10802 (the part number) from the epc...?
