Default weird wiper problem

evening all, my convertible wipers wont play ball. every function works until you try to turn them off. they just keep going on regular speed. they will stop if you turn the ignition off but resume if you trurn it back on?? I have changed the wiper stalk twice but with no joy so I know its not that? any suggestions gratefully received, thanks

If you have changed (with no success) the washer stalk, I suspect the "wiper motor delay unit" has a "stuck" contact on the inside of the module.
It is located behind the dash casing (knee bolster) and behind the auxiliary fusebox.
I replaced mine successfully (96 XJS) with one from an earlier year but to do so required drilling out the rivets (after removing the module) on the 'OLD" mount and then mounting the "new" used module on it.
The reason I had to do that was because the original one was mounted horizontally and
the other vertically.
If you find an exact match (parts yard or jaguar) then it is very easy to replace. Hope that helps.
