Add me to the list of those who have found their wiper motor to be completely trashed...

Mechanism is sound and functional. All plastic gears intact. The motor was not only seized with corrosion, one of the two magnets had disintegrated into shards and the one remaining attached to the housing is only about half there (also disintegrating). The armature does not appear burned and the brushes are present.

So I find myself in need of advice and direction to restore my wipers to working order.

$300+ for a refurb sounds outrageous, but I can't find anything else out there. If I were to come across a later model XJS (88-91) with the Lux motor set up and the entire wiper mechanism still attached to the grille, would it bolt in to my 85? The wiring plug looks the same...

Yes it would, BUT you will lose the intermittent wipe, apart from that all works with no mods. Well worth doing say I.
