Default 1986 Jaguar XJS Alternator Option

I hope everyone had a terrific holiday. I should mention, first and foremost, that I reviewed the various Jaguar XJS Alternator upgrade option threads. I have decided that I will use an XJ 40 Alternator and make the necessary modifications to the bracket. Also, I remove the pulley from my old Lucas unit and attached to the new120 amp xJ40 unit. Previous threads have simply indicated that an XJ 40 alternator would be suitable, my question is does that include the later XJ40 cars? For instance, I will be using a DBC 6819 which was originally intended for

Kevin,

DBC6819 was fitted on late 4 litre XJ40s, X300 4 litre and late XJS 4 litre.

The equivalent 120amp alternator on 5.3 & 6.0 late XJS was DBC6820. I'm just guessing that might have a different pulley suitable for the V12 engine?

Good luck

Paul

I had a 115amp single belt drive on my 84. When I had to change it I opted for a 120amp single belt drive. There is no advantage in fitted the 120. I had to adjust the belt twice in a year due to squeel and change it in 18 months. I got another (through Ebay) 115amp and it's been as good as gold for 18 months now. If you are buying 2nd hand avoid Surrey jag breakers.

Im in need as well for a new ALT, for my 86 I have hunted all the forums and sites and what everyone has done.. "this... or that one"... and there is never a straight forward answer on what anyone got working or part numbers, where they got it, correct pully etc..
Id like to upgrade to a higher amp one. The XJ40 one Greg said he uses, or the Landrover one, or the one from an 88+XJS or a GM, Which one will work with out any needing to "DO" any mods other the swap the pully? there are the "shaft is the wrong size" or machine this one..
I just want an someone to give some good info, as in "GET THIS ONE" and that's it.
There should be a sticky on which ones work with the least amount mods "post", to finally lay the constant information searching rabbit hole to rest on these ALT upgrades.
